HAWKSMOOR YOUTH HUB CELEBRATES THE QUEEN’S 90TH BIRTHDAY WITH THE COMMUNITY IN THAMESMEAD

Hawksmoor Youth Hub opened its doors to residents in Thamesmead as part of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrations on Saturday 11th June.

Over 400 people came to the event organised by local residents, staff and volunteers from Hawksmoor Youth Hub and Peabody Housing Association.

Residents young and old enjoyed a bouncy castle, face painting, table tennis, pool, outdoor gym for all ages, arts & craft music.

The London Fire Brigade also brought an engine down from the station in Plumstead to show the community and talk to young people about fire safety and their careers.

The event also saw the rechristening of the public path in the Moorings as “Claridge Way”. A public consultation chose to honour Ted Claridge, who was known as “Mr. Thamesmead” for his work in the community, including setting up local charity Trust Thamesmead.

The new Mayor of Royal Greenwich, Clllr Olu Babatola was guest of honour and attended with his fellow councillors from Thamesmead Moorings ward along with Erith & Thamesmead MP Theresa Pearce.

Speaking at the event, Claire Hallinan, manager of Hawksmoor Youth Hub said:

“It’s been lovely to see people of all ages in Thamesmead come together to create a special day. I would particularly like to thank the young people from Hawksmoor who volunteered by helping with games and food. They really are a credit to our community.”

The Hawksmoor Youth Hub is part of Young Greenwich, the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s youth service that Charlton Athletic Community Trust has delivered since 2012.
