New director joins CACT

Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT) new Director of Youth and Inclusion starts work this week.

Charlie MacDonald was appointed earlier this month and will join from Genesis Housing Association, one of the largest housing associations in London, where he was most recently Head of Operations – Care and Support.

He said:

“I started as a volunteer support worker in a large direct access hostel for the homeless, before going onto to work at Stonham Housing as a project worker supporting homeless ex-offenders when they left prison.

“I joined Genesis Housing Association 17 years ago to set up floating support services for vulnerable individuals and families who were at risk of losing their homes, and gradually progressed.

“I have always played and coached football so when I saw this role I thought it would be a great opportunity to combine both my passions.

“I am really looking forward to getting out and about to meet staff and the people that use our services to fully understand the good work that is going on.”

CACT’s Chief Executive Jason Morgan MBE said:

“Charlie was amongst a very strong number of candidates who applied for the job but stood out for his previous experience and understanding around impact of work, commissioning and partnership links, which included local councils.

“Charlie brings exciting opportunities to CACT which will allow us to move forward, and his background working for a housing association means we can build on relationships we already have with London & Quadrant Housing Trust and Peabody”.

Charlie succeeds Marc Leckie, who joined Harlequins as Head of Foundation in October.
