The L&Q One Goal programme won ‘Creating Places Community Project of the Year’ at L&Q’s annual awards, which was held at the Dorchester Hotel last week, with the award being presented by TV host Ruth Langsford.
Running for its ninth year, the awards give L&Q an opportunity to recognise individuals and groups who make a real difference in their community.
The One Goal programme is the largest free community holiday provision in the country and is delivered by Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) and 9 other football clubs across London. Running out of various L&Q housing stock areas, the programme is a free, high quality sports and arts programme for 5-21 year olds in the school holidays with an estimated social value of £7.5 million.
The programme has gone from strength to strength, seeing 14,623 young people attend the course across London between May 2015-April 2016. It has also recently been endorsed by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn, stating: “I’m confident it will inspire even more young Londoners to get active and creative during their summer holidays”.
Bradley Marshall, CACT’s L&Q officer attended the recent awards and was thrilled with the outcome.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the One Goal programme to be recognised for all the brilliant work we deliver across 20 boroughs in London”, he said.
“Working alongside 9 other football clubs, we have already started year 2, so we’ll be looking forward to continuing these partnerships as part of One Goal”.
Alongside Charlton Athletic Community Trust; Chelsea, Millwall, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Leyton Orient, Fulham, QPR and Dagenham and Redbridge are the 9 other clubs that deliver the programme in their respected boroughs.
