Previously just for those within its Low Emission Neighbourhood, the E-Z Cycle scheme is now available to anyone who lives, works or studies within the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The E-Z Cycle scheme provides the opportunity to hire a pedal-assisted electric bicycle for just £10 a month.
The e-bikes are great for those who want to return to cycling, or for anyone who has any health conditions that make riding a regular bike difficult. The bikes make starting off from junctions and going uphill much easier.
The battery that powers the motor lasts between 50 and 80 miles, depending on usage. It recharges at the mains like any other battery. It costs around 15p per charge .
The E-Z Cycle scheme is part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s commitment to increasing Active Travel as a way of improving air quality by reducing car use. This scheme makes using an e-bike an option for anyone living, working or studying in the Borough.
CACT also delivers the Low Emission Neighbourhood in Greenwich West and Peninsula wards on the Royal Borough's behalf.
It costs £10 to hire the e-bike, along with safety equipment, for one month, as well as a free cycle skills taster session with professional instructors from Royal Greenwich's cycle training provider, Cycle Confident.
Jason Morgan MBE, CACT’s Chief Executive, said:
“If anyone is struggling with any injuries, these pedal-assisted bikes can help people get out and help them with their riding.
“I fully encourage it and fully support it. I think it’s a brilliant campaign, a brilliant initiative. Please contact us if you want any more information.”
The scheme takes place twice per month:
- On the fourth Saturday of each month at the Charlton Athletic Training Ground, Sparrows Lane, New Eltham SE9 2JR (starting 23 February)
- On the second Sunday of each month at The Valley, Floyd Road, SE7 8BL (starting 10 February)
Collection and training is between 1pm and 4pm, and drop-off the following month is between 10am and 12:30pm.
