“Since joining the Advanced Centre, I’ve seen growth in his character” – Kyan May joins Charlton Athletic’s Academy through CACT pathway

“His transition from the Advanced Centre to the Charlton Academy has not just helped to develop him as a player but also as an individual.”

Kyan is the latest young person to sign for the Charlton Athletic Academy U11s after attending CACT's Advanced Centre.

“His transition from the Advanced Centre to the Charlton Academy has not just helped to develop him as a player but also as an individual.”

Kyan May is the latest addition to the Charlton Athletic Academy U11s after coming through the Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) Advanced Centre.

CACT’s Advanced Centre is a specialised Charlton Athletic Academy-designed curriculum focusing on technical abilities among players aged from the U5-U13 age groups.

In April 2020, Charlton Athletic scouts selected Kyan to be part of a talent ID squad who were set to take on CACT’s Advanced Centre U11 team. Kyan’s technical ability stood out amongst his teammates throughout the game and as a result he was invited to join CACT’s Advanced Centre.

Kyan spent 9 months with the Advanced Centre team developing all areas of his game and improving his footballing skills. His improvement within the Advanced Centre led to a 6-week trial with Charlton Athletic Academy.

Kyan then received the exciting news that he passed his trial and became a member of the Charlton Athletic Academy squad.

Andre May, Kyan’s father, said:

“Charlton has been a great fit for Kyan. His transition from the Advanced Centre to the Charlton Academy has not just helped to develop him as a player but also as an individual.

“Since joining the Advanced Centre, I’ve seen growth in his character. It has helped build his confidence, and leadership skills.

“As parents, we want him to be the best that he can in whatever he decides to do, but to see what the Charlton Academy environment and coaching can contribute to his journey is truly encouraging.”

Bradley Marshall, CACT Senior Football & Sports Development Officer, said:

“We are very pleased for Kyan on signing with CAFC Academy which shows how the Advanced Centre can be used to its full potential.

“As a team both CACT and CAFC coaches as well as the scouting team have all pulled together to make this happen. We hope Kyan continues to develop and flourishes in the hands of our academy which I am sure will be the case.”
