Perry, James and Paul from the Charlton Upbeats were asked to speak about the programme when they recently visited the Charlton Athletic Training Ground.
Over 170 people with Down’s Syndrome from across South East London and Kent are registered with The Upbeats with 40 regular attendees every week.
The programme specialises in providing a progressive and safe environment for players of all ages to reach their full potential. There is a clear pathway from young players who are learning the basic skills in the game up to senior competitive football.
Five of The Charlton Upbeats are currently taking their FA Level 1 course, Once qualified at the beginning of April, they will be qualified to start coaching grassroots football themselves.
The project has also expanded into Kent over the last year essentially doubling the provision being provided to local people with Down’s Syndrome and their families.
This year, amazing trips to tournaments in Belfast and Birmingham are planned. These trips will expand the horizons of the players and provide unforgettable experiences for them as they defend their crown as 4 times Down’s Syndrome National Champions.
The Upbeats programme is funded solely by your individual donations. Every penny raised for Charlton Upbeats Day on Saturday April 8th will go towards continuing the success and growth of the Charlton Upbeats.
