Walking "made life worth living again": Our new supportive walk in Plumstead

Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), alongside Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, has a new Bereavement walk beginning at 10am on Wednesday mornings, meeting at the Bostall Heath Cricket nets on Bostall Hill.

This is a gentle, social and approachable walk for mixed abilities, focussing on those who might be seeking comfort in times of grief.

Grief doesn’t just mean losing a loved one. Perhaps you are going through a difficult time. Perhaps you would just like some company and to get outside with others. This walk gives people time to reflect on their lives, chat with new people and engage with each other’s experiences. It provides an uplifting atmosphere and a space to be thoughtful.

Anyone could benefit from the comfort, support and friendship that the Bereavement walk offers. If you're experiencing hardship, grief or isolation and feel you might benefit from a reflective and supportive group - this is the walk for you.

One participant of Greenwich Get Walking, Vahide Yusuf, told their story of how CACT walking programmes have helped her. Three and a half years ago, Vahide had just lost her husband to cancer and was in a very dark place. She says she really does not know how she would have coped had it not been for the support she has received on the Mottingham Health Walk.

Being able to talk about her loss with people whilst walking helped her through this difficult time and enabled her to make new friends. She says “having a good laugh” has had a positive impact on her mental health and “feeling energised” when she comes home from a long walk has “made life worth living again”.

CACT Walk Leader Robin Sneddon said:

“The walk explores Bostall Woods and Lesnes Abbey. We walk at a relaxed pace that we hope encourages people to connect and share their experiences with one another. The surrounding area is beautiful, with interesting local history and with the weather improving, we are expecting a great turn out on our coming walks.”

“Walking provides so many benefits to our health and general well-being, so do not hesitate to join us on this walk or get in touch with our friendly team for more information.”

The Greenwich & Bexley Hospice walk meets at 10am on Wednesday mornings and lasts about an hour. It meets at the Bostall Heath Cricket nets and incorporates visiting Bostall Woods and Lesnes Abbey. Walkers should wear appropriate footwear for muddy terrain.
